Songbirds in the Vineyards: Research Film Screening and Panel Discussion

Wild Farm Alliance, in collaboration with Dr. Matthew Johnson, is hosting a free morning screening and discussion on the role of songbirds in vineyard ecosystems at the historic Cameo Cinema on April 30, 9:30-11:30am. RSVP here.

The program will feature the premiere of an 18-minute short film, Birds & Vineyards are Mutually Beneficial, highlighting research from Napa Valley vineyards. Following the screening, growers and researchers from the Vineyard Songbird Research Team will participate in a panel discussion and Q&A.

Panelists include Dr. Matt Johnson and Fatime Jomaa, Cal Poly Humboldt; Dr. Danny Karp, UC Davis; Kristin Belair, Honig Vineyard and Winery; and Rebecca Jain, Joseph Phelps Vineyards.

Farmers, bird enthusiasts, and wine lovers are encouraged to attend to learn how songbirds contribute to natural pest control in vineyards. The films and panelists will share practical strategies for supporting bird habitat in working vineyards.

“Wine grapes present a unique opportunity for farmers to illustrate how wildlife and agriculture cannot just co-exist, they can mutually benefit each other,” says Dr. Johnson. “There are lots of insect-eating birds in vineyards, so we are really fascinated by this opportunity for these birds to help contribute to ecosystem and pest control services in wine grape systems.”

The event is free and runs from 9:30am to 11:30 am on April 30 at Cameo Cinema, 1340 Main Street, St. Helena, CA 94574. RSVP requested at https://www.wildfarmalliance.org/songbirdmovie.
